The Young Curators Project invites middle and high schools students to the 77ART campus to learn and grow through art. Through workshops taught by 77ART volunteers the young curators will learn how to think critically about art and ultimately curate a show together.

Young Curators mission is to take advantage of the talented professional artists-in-residence by making them available to young people in our community. We want to present middle and high school age students throughout the Rutland region the chance to create meaningful relationships with a diverse group of powerful role-models working in the arts. We hope that participation in this program will offer students a deeper understanding of the way art is integrated in our lives as individuals and as a community. We believe it will have a lasting and positive impact on all who participate.

The Program:

The Young Curators Program will be based at the 77ART Center located at 77 Grove St. in Rutland, VT. The program will offer month long sessions for middle and high school aged youth. Each session will include eight evening workshops and one full day weekend field trip. Participants can expect daily interaction with resident artists, curatorial workshops/exercises, art making, museum/gallery visits, and a crash course in contemporary art history and practices. The program will culminate in an exhibition of artworks selected by the young curators out of the resident artistsā€™ works.
